The province of Catamarca has a Strategic Plan for Sustainable Tourism – Approved by Decree P.E. 1115/17, which is a technical planning reference tool that guides tourism management, with a 10-year time horizon (2014-2024). The main objective is to achieve a sustainable destination, qualified and positioned in the tourism market, which enables the socio-economic development of the province, through the increase and strengthening of private sector companies, foreign exchange income, rescue of identity values and the generation of local employment.
PROMOTION AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE TOURISM OFFER
Catamarca focuses on the development of its tourist attraction in four products:
➤ Religious tourism.
➤ Thermal tourism.
➤ Nature tourism.
➤ Archaeological-cultural tourism.
⦁ The province takes on a strong tourism campaign on a national level by means of advertisement during prime time on TV Abierta, on media and digital platforms, and outdoors in the country’s main squares.
⦁ A strong and active participation at fairs and events that enable the promotion of the destination is permanent, nationally as well as internationally.
⦁ As regards the development of tourist attraction, a line of rates specific for the sector, for infrastructure and tourism services investment, is promoted
⦁ A Thermalism Plan is being developed with the goal of strengthening the existing thermal products and elaborating new ones.
⦁ Major hotel investments are about to be inaugurated, such as a 5-star hotel in Fiambalá and others under construction by an important international enterprise.
⦁ There are currently 8434 hotel beds in the province.The projection consists of the increase in the short and long term.
TOURISM FLOW AND ECONOMIC IMPACT
In the second half of 2021, tourism in Catamarca had an economic impact of 3,347 million pesos
● During this period, 522.107 tourists arrived in Catamarca, of which 329.832 stayed at the different accommodation alternatives the province provides, for an average of two nights.
● The total amount of tourists mentioned spent daily an average of $4.963; which results in the total economic impact caused by tourism during the second semester of the year.
● The overall rate of hotel occupancy was 52.2%, with peaks of full occupancy during specific dates in October, November, and December.
